International ITE Certificate in Service Skills (Office)

 

 

This course provides students with all the required skills and knowledge in   performing a wide range of administrative task to support the operational effectiveness and efficiency of an organisation. Students can play in important role in an organisation by taking up this course. The skills that are acquired after the completion of this course are as follows:

  •      Handle simple correspondence
  •      Handle stationary stock control
  •           Prepare documents using common software packages
  •           Make travel arrangements
  •           Manage a filing system
  •           Process office documents, incoming and outgoing mails
  •           Arrange for meetings and attend to visitors
  •           Handle telephone calls
  •           Provide customer service
     

The English Language lies in the heart of our institution and our curriculum. In order to maintain an international environment and to ensure that our students are able to master effectively the core of the language, we offer our successfully enrolled students a crash course in the English language so that they are able to cope with NITEC course. The proposed curriculum for the English language course is listed hereby:

READING

At the end of this course, candidates will be able to understand:

+          the main points in short newspaper articles

+          the overall meaning of columns or interviews in the press

+          the meaning of unknown words and phrases from the context

+          how to use different reading techniques such as skimming and scanning to get relevant information

+          the most important information in short everyday information brochures

+          the plot of a clearly structured story and recognise the significance of events


WRITING

At the end of this course, candidates will be able to learn to:

+          write simple texts on a range of topics within your field of interest or experience

+          express personal views and opinions in writing

+          write personal letters asking for or giving news and narrating events

+          express feelings in writing such as grief, happiness, interest, regret or sympathy

+          reply in written form to advertisements and ask for specific information on products and services

+          convey, for example by email, short, simple information to friends or colleagues

+          write your CV in summary form


Information Technology plays a major role nowadays in any office environment. To ensure that our students are computer literate enough before embarking on the course, we provide them with a basic computer course which englobes the following skills:

 

·         Introduction to Computer Software/Hardware

·         Keyboarding

·         Introduction to the Microsoft Office Package

    • word processing – create, save, retrieve text file
    • spreadsheet program- create, manage, and manipulate numeric data
    • presentation software – create presentations

 

  • The ability to use the computer for Internet access and electronic communication
    • send and retrieve email

o   conduct Internet and database searches to obtain information and resources

Brief description of the modules

  1. Office Software Applications (IT)
    On completion of the module, students should be able to produce office documents using word processing, database, spreadsheet and presentation software packages.
  1. Customer Relations
    On completion of the module, students should be able to cultivate customer contact and rapport, manage their needs and expectations, obtain feedback and handle service breakdown and recovery.
  2. Business Etiquette & Grooming
    On completion of the module, students should be able to observe proper grooming techniques and apply business etiquette in relating to people.
  1. Principles of Office Administration
    On completion of the module, students should be able to prepare sales and purchasing documents, process mail, manage a filing system, attend to visitors and arrange meetings and make travel arrangements for an overseas trip.
  1. Business Communication
    On completion of the module, students should be able to handle both oral and simple written communications in an office. The training covers interpretation and analysis of business text and documents, telephone skills, written communication and oral presentation.
  1. Business Event Organization
    On completion of the module, students should be able to prepare and organise company events.  
  1. Book-Keeping 
    On completion of the module, students should be able to record business transactions and prepare simple final accounts for sole proprietorships.
  1. Basic of Personal Finance
    On completion of the module, students should be able to analyze basic financial information needed to choose between financial objectives and compare the consequences of their decisions. On completion of the modules, students would be able to better budget their money, save for the future, and realize their financial objectives.

Minimum Entry Requirements
The Institute operates an ‘Open Entry’ policy in respect of many of its vocational programs but prospective students should note that the following entrance qualifications are recommended for those wishing to undertake this program:

  • Is a holder of the School Leaving Certificate SLC or Cambridge 'O' Level or any equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of Education of Nepal

Course Duration

 10 months

Continuous Assessment

Continuous assessment is scheduled at the end of every topic for each module to ensure that students are coping up well with the syllabus.

Title of Certificate to be Awarded

Students must pass the final examination with a total score of 50 or higher for every module, and attend at least 75% of the training sessions to obtain an ITE Nitec in Service Skills Certificate.

Progression Opportunities:

Graduates may apply for advancement to some related full-time Higher Nitec courses in Accounting, Administration, Banking Services, Customer Contact Service, Event Management, Integrated Logistics Management, Hospitality Operations, Leisure and Travel Operations or Sport Management. 

 

On completion of the Higher Nitec courses, students can enrol in related diplomas leading to university graduation in Singapore or any part of the world. Alternatively, students may pursue these courses at private training centres which are licensed by ITE as their Approved Training Providers. On top of that, IIST College, in collaboration with the Bedok Commercial School of Singapore will be responsible to provide full credit transfer facilities for students who intend to pursue a Higher Nitec course in ITE Singapore (Government Board of Singapore). Although the final offer for admission will depend on ITE Singapore, IIST College shall assist the students in their application procedures.
